ATLANTA, GEORGIA. December 30, 2024. In a groundbreaking event underscoring the importance of cross-border collaboration, the Atlanta Black Chambers (ABC) and the Canadian Black Chamber of Commerce (CBCC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote mutual economic growth and opportunities for Black-owned businesses. The virtual signing ceremony marked a milestone in fostering international cooperation, economic inclusivity, and shared prosperity.
Speaking at the event, Melvin Coleman, President and CEO of the Atlanta Black Chambers, highlighted the significance of the collaboration: “Valuable relationships should start with our closest neighbors. Working together will inspire progress in our communities. Thanks to all who made this possible; this is our time to showcase the immense potential of global Black businesses.”
Michael Forrest, Founder of the Canadian Black Chamber of Commerce, equally celebrated the initiative, stating: “It’s an honor to partner with ABC. Canada is open for business, and partnerships like these exemplify the strength of Black-owned businesses across borders.”
The collaboration received strong endorsement from the Consul General of Canada in Atlanta, Rosaline Kwan, who emphasized: “This partnership is both important and worthwhile. Sharing expertise and building capacity for Black entrepreneurs will drive the Black economy we envision. The United States and Canada are the closest of allies, and I anticipate phenomenal outcomes from this collaboration.”
Ricardo Berris, Chairman of the Global Opportunities Committee of the Atlanta Black Chambers, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership: “This MOU sets the stage for unparalleled business synergy between Black-owned enterprises in Canada, Atlanta, and beyond. Together, we aim to generate $10 billion in global transactions among Black businesses over the next decade.”
The MOU outlines a framework for collaboration, including the exchange of trade missions, shared resources, and joint participation in international trade fairs and conferences. Both chambers committed to enhancing global trade, fostering innovation, and creating opportunities across sectors such as technology, real estate, agriculture, and more. This partnership represents a significant step toward a more inclusive global economy, showcasing the power of collaboration to break barriers and create sustainable growth for Black entrepreneurs worldwide.
